Store Cattle. — There is some inquiry for all sorts, mixed lots of all ages as well as matured bullocks in forward condition, but there are very few of any sort offering ; consequently the business done in these is at present limited.— The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Aoency Company (Limited) sold during the week 175 head, mostly grown steers, at up to L 6 5s per head. — The Mutual Aoency Company of New Zealand (Limited) report having sold 70 head of store cattle at full market rates.

Store Sheep. — There is no change of any consequence to be noted in the position of the market. Just now there are not so many sellers, but all offering meet with a good demand and readily are placed whenpriccsdemandedare within market rates. Nearly all the sales effected now are at the fortnightly auctions held at the various centres ; outside of these sales very little business is transpiring.— The Mutual Aoency Company of New Zealand (Limited) report having sold privately and at auction during the week 2374 sheep in the following lines : — 100 crossbred wethers, 48 do ewes, 480 do hogget 3, 229 do wothers, 208 do do, 132 merino ewes, 140 crossbred hoggets, 25 do ewes, 09 do ewes, 88 do hoggets, 05 do wethers, 140 do do, 108 halfbred wethera, 39 crossbred ewos, 100 do wethers. 07 mixed crossbreds, 200 crossbred wethers, 04 do do. Country Sales.— The Mutual Agency Company ok Nkw Zealand (LiiiiTr.o) report as follows:— On Tuesday, August 2, we held our usual fortnightly stock sale at Milton yards, for which an entry of about 800 sheep came to hand, all of a good class. There was a large attendance of farmers and others, and at auction aud privately afterwards we managed to dispose of every lot, as under: 65 fat wethers at 10s, 140 store wethers at 14s 9d, 84 at 14s 3d, 226 at 14s 4d, 2t quarterbrcd wethers at lls, 64 crossbred hoggets at 12s Bd, 24 at 10s lid.— At Palmerston on the same date our monthly stock sale was held, for which we yarded some 770 sheep, 00 head cattle, and a few pigs. There was a good all-round demand, especially for sheep, aui when the owners' ideas of values were not too high there was no difficulty in doing business. Forwardconditioned crossbred wethers brought 14s fid to 15s 6d ; quarterbreds, 10s lOd ; dairy cows, to L 5 10s ; store cattle, proportionate rates.— Also, at Balclutha on Friday, the 29th July, our usual fortnightly stock sale took place at the Crown yards. The entry was a moderate one, and the demand somewhat easier than of late.

Property Sales. — During the week the Nkw Zealand Loan and Meiicantile Agency Company (Limited) have been fortunate in effecting a sale of the Stantonbury Farm, Akatore district, comprising about 424 acres, at a satisfactory price, the purchaser being Mr Peter Williamson, Milburn.

Wool. — It will be satisfactory to notice that telegrams to had this sveek per Press Association report the Bradford wool market having a more hopeful appearance, and a fair amount of business has_ been done ; also that prices remain firm. This would almost indicate some degree of confidence in the sales to open next month in London. The business done in the local market is confined to odd lots occasionally offered at our weekly skin sales, which bring good prices considering quality. Balclutha Horse Sale. — Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows : — We held our opening horse sale at Balclutha, at the Crown Stables, on Tuesday, 2nd inst., when thero was a capital attendance of farmew and others. The bridge being down stopped a number of the draughts entered from being at the sale, but for those that were forward the demand was good, and purchasers were found for good geldings at from Lls to L 25. Light horses were a drug, and few changed hands.

Sheepskins. — The attendance at the weekly sales on Tuesday was satisfactory, nearly all the representatives of the trade being present, when full catalogues were offered, comprising the usual assortment generally to hand, and notwithstanding the unfavourable nature of the weather lately for fellmongering competition was very spirited. Last week's top prices were reached for green skins, and country dry skins were again in excellent demand, prices for these generally advancing. Dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought 2s to 3s lid ; do do merino. Is lOd to 3s ; full-woolled crossbreds, 4s 2d to 6s 7d ; do do merino, 3s 2d to 5s 3d ; dry pelts, 4d to Is 7d ; butchers' green crossbreds— best, 4s 4d to 4s 9d; selected, ss; medium to good, 3a 3d to 4s 3d ; green merinosbest, 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; light, 2s 9d to 3s each. Rabbitskins.— These continue to have an excellent demand, and the numerous consignments now coming to hand for public sale are meeting with very satisfactory attention, especially well-got-up lots ; dry and full-furred are eagerly competed for. There was a very full attendance at the auction rooms on Monday, when the proceedings were very lively. Prices realised (comparing quality with last week's) were fully maintained. Quotations : For winter greys, Is 3Jd to Is 4Jd ; selected does, Is 5d ; medium to good, Is Id to Is 3d ; autumn, 9d to lid ; summer, 6d to 8d • suckers and half-grown, 3d to 5d per lb. _ Hides.— ln the absence of suitable markets outside of our own, the low prices obtaining here for so long show no advanoo, and at prosent the prospect of any improvement in that direction seems somewhat remote. We have no alteration to make in quotations lately current, and which we repeat. For dry-salted heavy weights, free from scars and offal, 2Jd to 3d ; medium 2d to 2id ; light, ljd to Ifd ; inferior, Id to lid per lb. Tallow. — A fair demand continues to exist, and the market is firm at late quotations. The bulk of the offerings are taken up for local consumption. Quotations : For best rendered mutton, 19s to 20s ; medium to good, 16s to 18s 6d ; inferior to medium, 33s to 15s ; best caul fat, 12s 6d to 13s ; inferior to medium and good, 9s to 12s per cwt.

Grain.— Wheat : Since our last report this market has not undergone any significant change. The demand is by no means brisk, and buyers are only disposed to operate at prices representing a further decline, and then only to a very limited extent. The bulk of the small business transacted is almost confined to local millers' operations, aud they are content to buy only enough to satisfy present requirements ; and with more than ample to choose from, second-olass quality, even when fairly good, is 1 ejected, and only saleable at prices slightly differing from those paid for fowls' wheat. The outlook for the bulk of the wheat now in store is not by any means encouraging, and to make sales a considerable reduction on late quotations would have to be submitted to. We repeat last week's quotations, which were for prime milling velvet, red straw, and Tuscan, 3s 6d to 3a 8d ; good to best, 3s Id to 3s 3d ; medium to good, nominal, 3s 8d to 3s ; whole fowls' wheat, 2s 3d to 2s 6d • broken, Is 9d to 2s 2d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms).— Oats ; These have a very fair demand for both shipment and local requirements. During the past few weeks, however, prioes asked by sellers, except on occasions, are a trifle beyond shippers' reach ; consequently the business transacted is of less volume. Millers, being fairly well supplied for the time being, are only buying when suitablo lots offer. Nevertheless, the market continues firm, showing no difference in quotations as compared with those of last week, and while growers continue to supply the market so sparingly present prices will no doubt hold good, and w?th the small stock on hand are more likely to harden Quotations for prime milling, bright and stout, Is lOd to Is lid ; best bright short feed, Is 9d to Is lOd ; medium to good, Is 8d to Id 9d ; inferior to medium, Is 5d to Is 7d. Good Danish, well rilled and clean, fit for seed, also long Tartarian, bright and true to name, are worth Is 9d to 2s (ex store sacks extra, net).— Barley : Only occasional lines placed. The season for transactions of any consequence is now nearly closed ; indeed thero are {Vy,<. lf .any}. any } prime malting samples offering Milling is only in very moderate request, and feed difficult to place. Quotations for best malting, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; medium to good, 3s to 3s 3d • feed and milling, Is 9d to 2s 9d (ex store, sacks 'extra terms). '

Ryegrass Seed —The weather up to the present has not been quite so favourable for outdoor work as could be desired, in consequence transactions in the seed line have not as yet assumed any great dimensions ; still, small lots are almost daily moving off, and in due time we look forward to a. good business being done at quotations, which are: ior best dressed perennials, 3s 9d to 4s; medium, 3s 3d to 3s 6d (ex store). Cooksfoot seed

has a moderate demand, and we look for a further improvement a little later on. Quotations for best, 3}d to 4Jd ; medium, 3d to 3Jd per lb. w « « a t?'7t1 us lni V ket » eoing from bad to worse. Best Derwents are difficult to place at 25s to 30s ; any other sort almost unsaleable at a considerable reduction on the above. Chaff.— Fair demand 'for prime heavy bright aud well cut at from 47s Od to 52s Od ; extra prime, 555-only on rare occasions ; inferior to medium in full supply, selling at 25s to 45s per ton Dairy Produce.— This market exceedingly quiet • npdemand of any consequence. Best keg butter difhcult to place at over 9d. Factory oheese no inquiry : Medium size, nominal, 4}d to 5d • and loaf, sld to 51d ; dairy-made, 3d to 4Vd per lb. Flax.— Late reports from the London market continue unsatisfactory, holding out no inducement for further operations locally meantime, at any rate, and until some improvement sets' in at Home buyers here will not be disposed to purchase.
