SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting of the School Commissioners of Otago was held on Monday, and was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitlaud (chairman), J. Walker Bain, and James Green. A memorandum was read from the Southland Education Board thanking the commissioners for vesting section 38, block I, Toitois, in them as a school site. — Received. The Secretary stated that - the Board of Reviewers at Goro had, after inspecting Mr F. W. Ibbotson's runs, reduced the valuation from L 38.586 to Llß.o96.— Noted. A letter was read from Messrs J. and T. Davie, the lessees of section 1 of 20, block I, Otakia, asking for an extension till the Ist of May next of their lease, which expires on the 21st October. — It was decided to extend the lease as applied for, as it was considered desirable to bring as many leases as possible to an even date. Mr A. Jones, of Waikouaiti, wrote applying for a right to graze over section 4, block XLVI, town of Hawksbury. — It wrfs agreed to grant a temporary grazing lease at 5s per acre. Mrs Landrebe, lessee of section 46, block 11, Papakaio, requested permission to remove the stockyard and windmill from her section. — Permission was granted. Mr E. Lee applied for a grazing right over section 9, block 111, Oamaru town. — It was decided to offer the sectiou for lease for a term of five years, along with other vacant sections, at an early date. Mr J. D. Sievwright, lessee of section 16, block XXXV, Oamaru town, applied for a reduction in his rent. — It was decided to offer the section in question for lease for a term of five years. A telegram was read from the Undersecretary for Crown Lands asking if Messrs Ellis Bros, were still agreeable to the terms proposed for their giving up part of run 301u. — The Chairman reported that ho had replied to the effect that so far as he understood Messrs Ellis Bros, were still agreeable. The Secretary reported that sections 21 and 181, block I, Papakaio, were advertised for lease on the Ist prox., and recommended upsets, which were approved. Mr J. L. M 'Donald forwarded a report on Mr Mark Shaw's leasehold of sections 1, 2 and 3 of 105, Taringatura, aud section 34, Oreti. — The report was read, and it was decided to transmit a copy to the Hon. W. H. Reynolds. The Southland agent,' Mr J. L. M'Donald, reported that he attended the Warden's Court at Waikaia, where he had been unsuccessful in his attempt to get Wallis' lease cancelled, and further that Mr Wallis was applying for a lease of two acres of land which was already leased to Mr Cosgrove.— The action of Mr M'Donald in the matter was approved, and the secretary was directed to writo to the warden requesting him not to grant Mr Wallis' application. Several applications for transfers of leases, forwarded through Mr M'Donald, were agreed to. Mr M'Donald reported that Mr J. G. Miller had taken up sections 9 to 12 of 25, block XV, Invercargill Hundred, at the upsets, and had agreed to pay L4O valuation, which would cover arrears of rent. An application was forwarded through Mr M'Donald, from Mr J. C. Ellis, lessee of section 13, block VII, Otautau, to be allowed valuation on the termination of his lease in June next for tile drains, which he was having put on the land. — It was decided to make the drains a subject of valuation at the end of the lease. A letter was forwarded from Mr J. Fullarfcon offering to lease section 16, block VIII, town of Riverton, from year to year for grazing purposes, and Mr M'Donald recommended that tho section be offered for lease at 10s per annum in addition to the rates. — It was agreed to graut a lease for one year at 10a with rates. The Secretary reported ou sections 32, 33, and 1 of 34, block XIII, Oamaru district. — Read and noted. Accounts amounting to Ll5O 11s 3d were passed for payment.
