LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board, whioh was held on Wednesday, was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messts H. Clark, Duncan, and W. Dallas. , Gbbbnvam.— Mr A. Durward, of Harlot, applied for a three years' lease of part of section 21, block IV, Greflnvale, containing six acres, for drying flax.— The application for a lease was deolined, but the matter was left to the chief commissioner to arrange for the applioant occupying tbe land. t Wabbpa.— rThe Beoeiver of Land Bevenue Intimated that Hugh Cameron had now paid areas due on perpetual lease section 27. blook IX, Warepa district, and the board resoinded the resolution passed on July 8 last, forfeiting his lease. ! Waitahusa Wbst.— Mr S. Daniells, of Tuapeka Mouth, applied, on behalf of a number of residents there, to have seotion 28, bock I, Waitahuna West, reserved as a site for a publio hall.— The Government was recommended to reserve the seotion in question for the purpose named. , Applications.— The following applications were approved -.— Kural land for cash : G. Catiey, sections 27 and 29, block IV, Glenomaru distriot. Buwl land on perpetual lease: Adam Donaldson, section 31, blook VII, Woodland distriot. Village settlement land on perpetual lease : James Young, seotion 44, fclook I, Warepa district; P. M'Affrey, section 5, blook X, Woodland district. Waipobi.— George Moore applied to transfer small t razing run, sections 1 and 2, blook IX, Waipori Istrlot, to William Robert Moore.— The transfer was approved. Tbansfeb ■ of Land fob Boads.— The following persons holding land in blook VIII, Glenomaru, transferred portions of their sections to the Queen for road lines -.—David Cook, 4a Or 34p of section 96 ; D. D. M'Farlane, 2a 20r 17p of section 93. Tapanui. -David Kirk applied to complete purchase of deferred-payment village settlement section 7, blook XXVII, town of Tapanui.— The application was declined, the lioeusee not having complied with conditions as to improvements, and it was deoided that the licensee be required to show cause within one month why his license should not be forfeited for non-oompliance with residence conditions. Swinbubn. — Thomas Healey applied for a reduction of reut on a coal lease of 50 aores ia blook 111, Swinburn distriot.— The application was deolined. Havkcock.— Bobert James Niohol applied for a license to prospeot for coal on sections 33 to 33, blook XXXIII, town of Havelock.— Referred to district land officer to state if there was any objection to the application.) Bun 51a.— Mr J. O. Buckland aiked the board to define his position with regard to the 1540 acres of bush on Bun 51a, Waipori, held by him under leaße. —The Chief Commissioner saidMrßuokland bad got a license for pastoral purposes over 10,460 acres, leaving out the bush. If he considered that he had no right of pasturage over the bush he would throw the rabbiting upon the Government. Although the bush was inoluded in the boundaries of the run, the board charged no rent for it.— Mr Buokland stated in reply to the chief commissioner that if he were'glven the riiznt'of pasturage over the bush he would not oppose any license to cut timber. If he had no right to the bush he had no authority to interfere with the rabbits. -It was resolved that Mr Buokland's right of pasturage extended over the area of land shown on the plan of run, including the bußh.

It is intended in future to run the steamer Matau regularly between Tuapefea Mouth and Balclutha. The Tuapeka Times states that last Thursday the members of the Clutha River Board proceeded by steamer to Clydevale to personally inspect the river.
