THE OAMARU COURSING MEETING.

(Fhom Ovr Own Correspondent.) The Oamaru Coursing Club's last fixture for ' this season took place on Mr M'Lean's land at Papakaio on Tuesday, 19th inst., in the presence of a large number of "lovers of the leaah," when the Ladies' Stake was decided. The winner proved to be Stormy Night, winner of the President's Cup at the club's first meet in April. The weather was lovely for coursing, and although puss was not very plentiful, the deciding course was finished in good time. Mr W. Macaulay, of Totara, agaio acted as hon judge, and gave every satisfaction, and Messrs J. Dalgleish, Wise, and Procter took turns with the slips, all doing good work. At the conclusion of the sport the usual cheers were given to Mr M'Lean, for allowing the olub the use of his land for the season ; to Mr Macaulay, the judge, the slippers, winners, losers, and the ladies. JIRBT ROUBD. Stormy Night and Penance both got unsighted in the run up, but Penance catching sight again first, turned twice and wreuohed the same number. His opponent then gave him ago bye and turned twice, and finished by killing. Hard Times was three lengths faster than Calliope; turned twice; the white then got in for a single, the blaok another, and Calliope coming again used a strong hare freely and secured the verdict easily as puss escaped. Carrie was three lengths fatter than dribbler ; turned twice and wrenched, and driving at her game she let Dribbler in for two wrenohea ; Carrie ended by pulling puss down. From a long slip, in wh.ch Scud was unsighted for a bit, Scotoh Nell usad puiß first, and working closely, only allowed the dog two points in a good course, Nell killing. Harptmden was six length! faster than Cheviot Lass, whom he only allowed a point on sufferance before he killed. Water Babs was first to score, and had a good aooount before Busy Lass began, but Babs finished by killing. Melbourne Tom was three leugths ahead of Milkmaid when he turned twice and put the hare to the white for two, who drove it through a fence, and sticking to puss lor two turns and a wrench, she placed Tom lor two turns, the slut killing off the turn and winning. Castaway led Brigham Young by four length*, and driving puss iv front of him never allowed Brigbam, who was looking on, a point. SECOITD ROUIfD. Stormy Night led Calliope, aud ran up a long •core before the white could get an opening, but; puss eioaping left Stormy Night an easy winner. Carrie led Scotoh Nell by two lengths, turned twice and wrenched, and put puss to Nell, who soon rubbed out her opponent's score, and had won easily rb puss left them. Harpenden was six lengths in front of Waterßabs when hetuned, and using puss in fine style never allowed Babs a point, the latter looking on at the finish. Melbourne Tom led Castaway, and ran up a long score, but tiring he let Castaway in. and the latter scoured the verdict) after a long course. THIRD ROUMD. Stormy Night was two lengths faster than Scotch Nell, when she turned twice, wrenched, and put the hate to Nell ; the latter killed, spoiling whatever chance the had. After a no-oourae, Harpenden led Castaway by a dozen lengths and beat him pointless; puss, being the better of the three, escaped. FINAL. From a good slip Stormy Night led Harpenden three lengths, and, driving puss in front of him, never allowed the blaok to get a poiut, as puss escaped. Mr Gardiner disposed of his slut Stormy Night, after winning the stake, to Mr M'Croady, of Auckland, who will, I am iuformed, probably take her to Melbourne next season. The English mail brings news of further vie tories for Mr G. B. Shaw, the New Zealand athlete. At Huddersfield sports (after those of the Civil Service) he won the 120 yds Hurdles. He owed 6yds, and beat two of the best hurdlers at Home, Haward and Daft. He won easily in 17 4-sseo. He also appropriated the 440yda Hurdles, being handicapped at 20ydi,- the time being 58 2-ssec. Subsequent to the above meeting Shaw and Daft ran a dead heat in the 300 yds Hurdles from scratch at the North Leeds fixture, the time being 39 4-ssec.
