The signal was no Booner given than Holderness took the lead from Minnedosa, and tbe pair came into sight in advance of Heaume on thejright, Hackler in the centre, and Bel Demonio on the left, After travelling nearly a quarter of a mile Holderness dropped back a little, and Minnedosa carried on the running from Heaume, Haokler, and Bel Demonio. The second lot then consisted of Holderness and Footaineblean, with Abingdon soon oonspicuous in the rear, At a fair pace Minnedosa retained tha command to the T.Y.O. winning post, where Heaume carried his colours to the fore, and with the front rank instantly broken up the pursuit was then maintained by Haokler from Minnedosa and Kirkham. With Cannon oittine; still until 200 yds from the chair, he was then compelled to oall upon Hackler, who failed, however, to make the least impression on Heaume, and the oids were landed in the commonest of canters by two lengths, half a length divided second and third. Lord, Marcus Beresford dropped the flag to

a splendid start, and Surefoot, in the centre, at once drew to the front from St. Serf, on the right. They were followed almost in a line by Le Nord, to the immediate left of Surefoot, Alloway, and Golden Gate, just behind whom lay Blue-green, with Villejust and Belville occupying the two extreme berths. In tha first quarter of a mile Golden Gate dropped into the heels of Surefoot, who was out by himself at the T.Y.C. winning post from St. Serf, Le Nord, and Alloway, with Golden Gate and Blue-green in turn well ahead of the rubbish. Before reaohing tb« Bushes Le Nord passed St. Serf, who began to tire on the brow of the hill, and, together with Alloway, resigned to Golden Gate and Blue-green. The last-named pair failed to get anywhere near to the two favourites, and when Barrett called upon Le Nord as they entered the Abingdon Mile Bottom hiß fate was sealed, as the other jockey had been Bitting perfectly BtilL Under pressure Le Nord did not flinoh for a single stride, and struggled well to the bitter end, without, however, fairly getting at Surefoot, iwho the hill in splendid Btyla and gained a brilliant victory by a length and a-half. Blue-green, who collared Golden Gate in the dip, scoured third money at an interval of five lengths from Le Nord, with bt. Serf fourth, beaten about a neck, Alloway fifth, Golden Gate sixth, Belville seventh, and Lusignan last. Time by Benson's chronograph, lmin 49 4-sseo. Value of the stakes, £4100.
