(Lyford) 0 7— Mr H Ward's r m Waipapa, syrß, 10.2 (HMurfit) 0 At the back the horses formed a section of four's till reaching the mile and a-half, when Bloodsuoker drew away, and entering thß straight with whips out a close race ensued, Bloodsucker passing the post a nose in front of Landsborough, Isidore third a length behind, with Waipapa on his quarter. A protest was lodged by Kingan against Bloodsuoker on the ground that Lyford interfered with Landsborough in the finish by passing his hand in front of that horse's head, which was considered by the stewards and sustained. At the bend, Harkaway, inside, had an advantage, but Catamount passed him by half a length at the finish, Securus an indifferent third. Time, lmin 47sec. Dividend £1 17s. One mile and a-half. 46— Mr W C Webb's oh h Ruby, 6yrs, 7.12 (White) 1 120— Mr D Rutherford's b g Ahua, 6yrs, 8.13 (Derrett) 2 12-Mr A M'Rae's eh g Beauly, aged. 6.0 [carried 6.8] ... - (Kiugan) 0 When the flag fell Beauly wont forward with a rush, leading the way to the stand, when he ran wide in spite of Kingan's skill. Ahua then came up, and raced with Beauly on his flank round the back and into the home turn, from whence a game race home enßued, White landing Ruby a winner by two lengths. Beauly, a bad third, boltbd right away past the grand stand to the ontrance. Time,; 2min 4536 c. Dividend, £3 9a 6d.
ASHLEY COUNTY HANDICAP, Of 2550V8 ; second horse to receive sbovb from the itake. One mile. 70— Mr H M'Lean'o eh g Iroquois, by Norseman, ] 6yrs, 8.0 ... ... (W Thomas) 1 13— Mr H Ward's r m Waipapa, syrs, 8.12 (Pilbrow) 2 18— Mr W O Rutherford's blkm NilDeßperandum, 4yrs, 7.7 ... ... ... (Ousdin) 3 71, Malachi (7.7), 5, Calliope (6.7) also ran. Calliope took command to half the distance. Here Iroquois ran through his horses, and won with a bit in hand by three lengths from Waipapa. Nil Desperandum came up at the home turn, but could not stay. Time, lmin 52sec. Dividend, £2 53 6d. NOVEL RACE, Of2osovs. No weight under 90. Six furlongs. 65— Mr J Kerr's b g Normanby, by Day Dawn, aged ... ... ... (W Watts) 1 14— Mr H MurJit's b g Loiter, aged (Pilbrow) 2 23-Mr W Binnie's oh g Fishhook, 4yrs (White) 3 53, Gold Spec ; 14, Nil Deaperandum, also ran. Loiter, Normanby, Fishhook, Gold Spao, and Nil Desperandum formed a procession over part of the distance, when Normanby challenged Loiter and won by half a length, Fishhook a poor third. Time, lmin 22sec. Dividend, £2 10b. Normanby was sold by Mr W. Buds for £10 to Mr Winsloe. WINTER OATS HANDI3AP, Of 30sovs ; second horse to receive 2sovs from the stakes. Six furlongs. 45— Mr H Vallance's br g Harkaway, 4yrß, 6.0 (Cusdin) 1 80— Mr W O Webb's oh h Ruby, 6yrs, 8.12 [?lb extra] ... ... ... (White) 2 The match waa well contested, and raised a good deal of excitement, Harkaway's win by a length being well received. Time, lmin lOaeo. Dividend, £2 9s.
