LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday was attended by Mr J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), J. W. Thomson, W. Dallas, H. Clark, and J. Duncan.

Rock and Pillar.— Mr Vincent Ppke, M.H.R., wrote asking that section 4, block 11, liock and Pillar, be offered at 10s per acre, capital value.— lt was pointed out that the board had previously recommended the Government to notify the section at 15s, and that therefore Mr Pyke's request oould not be granted.

HERiOT.-Mr V.Pyke, M.H.K., on behalf of the Heriot Preserving Company, applied for four acres of the road reserve, adjoining the township, whereon to erect their works and construct a siding, and asked that it be granred to them at the upset price.—Referred to the chief surveyor for consideration, wnen having survey effected as previously requested. Catlins. Meesrs 3. H. and H. A. Macdonald, licensees under the Public Reserves Act, asked if they could cultivate portions of section 27, block IV, Catllus, and sow it in grass under the pi esent license, or if they would require to obtain another license to enable them to do so.— lt was agreed to offer no objection to sowing the grass, providing no obstruction was placed in the way of quarrying ; no cropping to be allowed.

Lower HAWEA.-Colomb Dalton wrote stating that on the understanding that thoboard would allow him to remove teucing in the event of his section 20, block V, Lower Hawea, being disposed of, hn had erected 80 chains and asked that the lenco be assessed by arbitration, or that he ba allowed to take up th^ section subject to ceitain conditions as to fenping 1 . ,— lt was stao. d that this man had had his rent re l ducad and had never taken his laud up after that had been done.— No further reduction for improvements can be allowed ; section now open at 15s per acre, and if applicant does not take it up the chef commissioner to take steps to resume possession ot the land. It was further agreed t.hat the board could allow i,o other terms of payment of reut than those imposed by the act. Leaning Rock.— Tue Warden at Clyde forwarded a report by the receiver of gold revenue as to the fultability of sections 6. 7, and 9, block IV, Leaning Rock, 950 acres, for notification, and stated that they were fit to be classed as suitable for agricultural purposes. The warden did not think they were aurilerous, or that they would ever be required for mining purposes.— lt was agreed to recommend the sections for notification at lvis 6d per acre. Kawarau.— Mr John Chalmerp applied forsection 6, block 11, Kawarau, on perpetual lease, at Is per acre. — Referred to Ranger Mackenzie for a report. Blackstonb,— Mr Malcolm Campbell applied to leaofl sections 8 and 9, block X, Blackstone, on perpetual lease or aa a small grazing run, as he had no water for his stock.—Governor-in-Council recommended to offer sections 2, 8, and 9, block X, Blackstone, for pastoral license ; also seotlons7, lo, and 11, same block, the land being considered auriferous. ' SJtrath-Taikri.— MrThomae Peddie, Macraes, applied for the grazing right over the present reserve on Nenthorn boundary of seotion 1, block VII, Strath-Taieri, and agreed to pay a reasonable sum for it. — Referred to the chief commissioner. Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of Margaret Hanlon, licensee of section 4, block A II, Strath-Taieri, made application tor right to graze stock over the forest reserve between sections 3 and 4, block VII, being section 19 of said block. She agreed to keep the rabbits down.— Referred to the chief commissioner.

Nbnthorn and Stbath-Taieri —The board was requested to fix the rent to be charged for sections 1 to 3, 8 to 12, block H, Nenthocn, and section 16, block XIII, Strath-Tnier!, as a small grazing run lately held by Gideon Scott nt Is 5d per acre ; area, 2255 acres. — To be offered at a capital value of 12s 6d Xier acre Mr M. J S. Mackenzie, M.H R., wrote asking the board to offer for sale at as early a date as poßßible the sections of the Nenthorn township. The inhabitants of Nenthorn, he stated, had for some time been anxious that this should be done, and, as all the reefs in the neighbourhood had be a n thoroughly prospected there was no danger of the sale of auriferous land.— The Chief Surveyor wrote suggesting that the following sections be set apart as under:— Sections 1 and 2, block V, public buildings ; block IV, recreation ; sections 1 to 4, and sections 17 to 20, block VI. educational purposes.— lt was resolved that, with the approval of the Governor, sections 1 to ?8, 1 to 6, and 11 to 30, block 11, sections 1 to 29, block 111, in the township of Nenthorn, be classified as town land with the view of being offered for sale. Maniototo.— Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of Joseph Howell, applied for a lease of the village reserve on block XI, Manioloto, at 9d per acre'. — Declined. — -Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of J. Penkith, applied for a lease for seven years of the tailings reserve between sections 3 and 4, block XI, Maniototo.— Declined.

The Recent Balloting. -Twenty-seven applications for rural land on perpetual lease were approved. These were the successful applicants last week when a large area of land was balloted for. • Dunback.— Mr J. Macgregor, on behalf of John Brown, applied for, a rehearing of his application to transfer pastoral lease over sections 1 and 2, block VIII, sections 1, 2, and 3, block IX, and seotion 22, block V. Dunbaok, to James Kennedy. — Mr Macgregor having given satisfactory reasons why the request should be granted, the board agreed to reconsider the application. The facts of the matter were then gone into, after which it was resolved to approve of the transfer from Mr Brown to Mr Kennedy. Mr Jos Philip asked that his deferredpayment section 19, block V, Dunback, be i till further reduced to 2s 6d per.acre.— The board had no power to reduce the price of the section.'

Highlay.— Application was made for the transfer of small grazing run for approval over section 5, block VUI, Highlay. from the Oflicial Assignee, in tho estate of W. B. Griffen.to Robert Lee —Transfer approved. Peter Gifford's application for section 20, block 11, Highlay, on perpetual lease, was granted. Waitahuna West.— Mr James Smith stated that on his obtaining the grazing right over the punt reserve, block 111, Waitahuna West, he would keep the same clear of rabbits.— Referred to the chief commissioner.

Tabras.— Mr E. B. Martin appeared on behalf of Mr Samuel Clark and asked for the right to graze stock over sections 0 and 12, and part of 6, and the reserve of 77 acres in block IX. Tarras, for the purpose of watering his stock and keeping down the rabbits, for which he is willing to pay 10s per annum. — Referred to the chief commissioner.

Haseby.— Messrs D. Keid and Co , on behalf of Walter Inder, of Naseby, applied for a grazing right or other occuption, either by lease or license, of atiout 300 acres of land on the north side of the Taierl Lake— Referred to Banger Hughan for a report.

Kurow. — Charles Turner, deferred - payment licensee of section 2, block V, Kurow, asked that he might be allowed to obtain water from the Waitaki river secured to him to enable him to water his stock. He had been unable to come to any arrangement with Mr Cairns, the adjoining occupant, with reßpecfc to their mutual occupa'ion of the shingle reserve oppnsitelheirland?.— Hefei red to the chief commissioner to arrange as ho may think beit.
