WAIWERA.

May 12.— We have passed through what has probably been the finest season experienced here for very many years' past ; indeed, the fall has been more like an Bnglish spring than anything else so far as the weather is concerned. Turnipß and grass continue to grow and are looking well. As present, however, we are getting some rather cold showers, which might be reasonably expected, seeing that we are now in the winter months.

The Sheep Industry.— ln consequence of the very fine season a considerable amount of business is being done in sheep dealing. There seems to be more money in this line than in anything else at present. Good sheep command ready sale at satisfactory prices. Several experiments are being tried with regard to the most profitable process of feeding sheep for fattening purposes— turnips alone, turnips with chaff, oats, &c, I hope to be in a potition to give full particulars of the experiments soon, and the result will, I am sure, be very useful and beneficial to farmers and others.

Ploughing.— The plough has been started in aome places, [but as yet the land is too dry for a deep furrow. Rain seems, however, to be near at hand, judging from the state of the atmosphere at the time of writing. Influenza.— Many people are suffering from very severe colds in various forms, and the complaint seems to be quite epidemic. I presume it is a form of la grippe. In some oases it is really severe, and appears to be dangerous, especially where theie has. been a relapse.
