AN EPILOGUE.

Our jubilee season is over, Bub itß brightness will linger long, And the wealth that is If ft behind it Of Industry, Art, and Song. It has sealed with its graven signet Those, the gifted, who feel and see ; It has focuseed endeavour and given A power to humanity. We have taken all people as kindred To our hearths and home with pride, And in ccmfideuce of friendship They have worked with us side by Bide. In the flutter of life and joyousness And sweets whioh surrounded the sense, Thore have hovered the messages o'er us Of those who could but dispense Thoir beautiful dreams in pictures, Their seraphic Ideas in sound, And our spirits with theirs have mingled In rapture whiohknew no bound. We have traced with delighted vision Thoughts recorded by hands now still, And have read on the canvas of others The grandeur of soul, the thrill That nerves them to higher purpose, That lifts them to loftier height, Led by the geniuß which llveth And burns with its fervid light. So now that the effort is over Let us nelhher lament or sigh ; We are surely a better people For the beauty that has passed by. We have large-hearted ones among us, Who might have remained unknown But for what has been nobly accompllsh'd In the harvest their hands have Bhown. We have Btill our glorious country, Its waters and skips of blue, Our towering, russet-robed mountains, And sunlight valleyo too. With the courage, the atreugth, and valour, Which shall help us bravely to breast The waves of the coming future. Till our turn shall arrive for rest. May 6,1890., 1890. —A D
