KELSO.

Apbil 28.— The fine weather is all the talk, for we are enjoying better growing weather now than during mid-summer. Threshing is almost finished, and the yield is very satisfactory, giving in some instances as much as 100 bushelt per acre. Mr,Oharles Gatanach threihed that number out of a paddook of sparrowbills, while Mr A. M'lntyre threshed an average of 70 bushels. The ronds were never in better order, and carting is going on without ceasing. Our railway officials have been having a very busy time of it, but there was no blockade at any of tbe stations, and they managed to give general satisfaction to all concerned. Church Matters— The Kelso charge is now vacant, and candidates are invited to preach trial sermons. It is to be hoped that the parties in power now will show Christian spirit, learn to bear and forbear, and practise what they, preach. Politics.— Our gallant captain, who was defeated | at the last general election for Waikaia by two votes, is, I am informed, going to " buck up again "against Mr Biohardson, Minister of the Grown, and Mr Valentine at the next eleofcion for Mataura district, so there will be some lively times in store for the electors. Fire.— About 100 bags of oats belonging to Mr D. Ferguson were burnt on Wednesday evening last. It is suppoßed that the fire occurred through carelessness with matches. The grain was uninsured. School. — Our school had to be closed for a short time on account of the Influenza. lam afraid that between harvest; holidays and other causes the attendance in this district will be very irregular, and under such circumstances inspectors of schools cannot expect a large percentage of passes.
