TUAPEKA MOUTH.

Apbii 88.— The very dry season we have had has completely ruined what would otherwise have been a fair turnip crop; in fact, very few turnips are to be seen anywhere in this district. Threshing operations are almost finished, and although fair yields are recorded, they are not up to expectations. The very low prices current should induce farmers to feed sheep on the oats rather than sacrifice them at the prices ruling. Tenders have been called and accepted for the erection of a goods shed for the accommodation of farmers sending produce by river. As ' Is usual in matters of this kind, however, we may, I suppose, be thankful if it is erected in time for next reason's traffic.

School Mattkrs.— lt is currently reported that certain parties are agitating for a change of school master. Notwithstanding this apparent dissatisfaction Mr Drain.is a very painstaking and efficient teacher, and until the compulsory clause is enforced neither our present teacher nor any other could gain a fair average. It is well known that the attendance is the most irregular for miles around, a fact which is amply explained by the word " rabbits."
