THE GOLDEN QUARRY AT DEEP DELL.

The following letters have appeared in the Daily Times: — Sir,—Mr Miller's description of the locality extending from Griffith's paddock, Macraes, to Deep Dell Creek may be perfectlyoorrect, but it does not describe the locality of tha Golden Quarry Company's claims. The Quarry's claims are situate on the far side of Deep Dell Creek from the part described, and extend across the Horse Flat towards Highlay. —l am, &c, Dunedin, August 14, WALTER HISLOP. ' Sib, —There being two localities which are referred to as Golden Quarries in the neighbourhood of Macraes, it seems that my remarks, made in your issue of the 14th inst. (Wednesday last), have given rise to some misunderstanding. Although I took care to define the locality I alluded to very definitely, it was confounded with the Golden Quarry at Horse Flat, near Macraes, at which place there does exist an immense reef, from which a trial crushing went 12dwt per ton at Kincaid and M'Queeu's battery, and 13Jdwt at the Huntington mill; and it is this reef to which the Mount Ida Chronicle referred, the confusion arising from the facb that "Deep Dell" was mentioned by the Chronicle as the locality of the reei instead of " Horse Flat." From this explanation it will be seen that my remarks do not at all apply to the "Golden Quarry at Horse Flat." Trusting that this correction will prevent further misunderstanding, —l am, &c, Nenthorn, August 16. John A. Miller.
