CASUALTIES.

A sad accident, resulting fatally, happened to a little daughter, 11 years of age, of a settler . at Fordell, Wauganui, named Henry N. Harrison, li appears the girl was riding home from school on a pony behind her brother, when in ; passing some children throwing stones one.' struck the pony, which reared and threw deceased, who fell on her ; head and was killed instantly. .- The body of a man unknown was discovered on the boulder bank abreast of Wakapuaka, Nelson, on the 9th. It is that of an elderly man with grey hair, and fully- dressed in a dark coat and vest with moleskin trousers. As Judge Ward, Mrs Ward, Mrs Williams, and Miss Ackerman, temperance lecturess, were driving in a four-wheeler to the latter's leoture at Christchurch, a drunken man pressing Cathedral square fell'in front of the horse, which passed over him, inflicting severe lacerated wounds on the head and -other injuries. The judge had him conveyed to the hospital, where he now lies unconscious. A Maori girl named Maria Munu, eight years of age, was burned to death at Waipu, Hawke's Bay, on the 6th mat. Carelessness was shown on the part of the parents, but no inquiry was held. Eanieri, a native, was cleaning a gun at Whetaurota, Auckland, when it went off at halfcock and shattered his hand.

Charles Blorne was very badly scalded about the arms and head at Auckland on Saturday by an accident while removing a boiler of hot water from 'a fireplace. . . -, :., ... ,
