Chess Items.

A number of games of chess were played at Maheno on Thursday evening by members of the Ottmaru Chess Club and Maheno Chess Olub. , The Oamaru Club was represented by Messrs Banks, Davis, Clayton, and Francis, and the Maheno Club by the Rev. Mr Cruden and Messrs^Oossgrove, Clark, and Parker. The Oamaru players secured the greatest number of games, and a most enjoyable evening was spent, the Rev. Mr Cruden and Mr Francis doing the greatest service for their respective sides.
