EAST TAIERI.

, APBiii 2.— The weather has again taken up a Httle after the welcome rain, and' the crops are being secured In the stack. They have pn}y suffered to a very slight extent^a few grains 'sprouting in the sheaves that were down. • The grairi'is not'much discoloured; but there v still a good' deal out yet,- a'ud some even to cut. Many farraera have, iof course,, their crops all in, and thethr, eshing ( mills, are very busy. The returns are very .enqouraglug in some places, while }n others they are but medium, as, owing to the drought, the crops did riot fill properly, and with the heat they whitened for ripe before thfe grain was plump. ■ The gra6B was benefited considerably by the rains, and is beginning to get green agaip and give prospect of feed being a little more plentiful than was at one time thought it would be.- This is a very acceptable change,' as it certainly looked as if winter feed would be scarce. - The frosts of fclie last few morningsihave blackened the.shaws of the'potatoes.but not severely, and they are being lifted on many farms, for as a ruie, the crops of this tuber are but small compared with those of former seasons, The turnip crops have been benefited greatly by the rains, and they have in plenty of places recovered from the effects of drought and b!sgh*i and, are giving promise of yet being an average crop. , The plough has been started on a goo 1 many farms, but the land does not work freely, being too dry.
