The Sawyers Bay Club thus won the match by four games. A great deal of interett was taken in fie event, and a large number of visitors watched the proceedings with interest. At the conclusion of the match the Sawyers' Bay Club entertained their opponents and the office-bearers of the Dunedin Club at supper in the large dining room. Mr George Foster occupied the chair, and Mr J. Dryden (president of the Mosglel Club) was vice-chairman. After enjoying supper, The Chairman expressed the pleasure felt by his team at having a friendly contest with the Mosgiel players. No doubt it was all the more enjoyable as they managed to secure a victory. However, he was pleased to say that the match was a very close one, and had been conducted in a most friendly spirit. He suggested that the two clubs should combine to form a team of about 20 or 24 players and challenge the Dunedin Club to friendly combat. The VICB-CUA.inMi.Jf, in a humorous speech, said that he was getting too used to reply for the defeated side. He endorsed the chairman's suggestion about a combined team, as he thought the match would be specially interesting. The Dunedin Club was the premier club of the colony, but with 24 players a side the contest ought to prove a keen and cose one. He asked his men to give three hearty cheers for the Sawyers' Bay team, and also three to the members of the Dunedin Club for so kindly giving the use of their room on thiß occasion. - Lusty cheers were at once given. Mr David R. Hay (on behalf of the Dunedin Club) returned thanks, and said that they would be most happy to give the use of the room for any similar occasion. In connection with the suggestion of a match against a combined team, he could safely say that his club would be only too willing to enter the lists against them. He was convinced that the struggle for supremacy would be a tough one, but that would cause it to be played with the keenest zeflt. The proceedings were enlivened by songs from Messra Henry Howes and David Mackie. Everything passed off most pleasantly. The catering was excellent. Edkndale v. Wyndham.
