MATAURA FOOTBALL.

. The Mataura junior footballers visited Gore and tried- conclusions again with the Second Fifteen of the G.F.C. The former match resulted in a draw, hut this time the visitors were unfortunate, and lost the game by four points to nothing. Immediately the leather was set rolling in the first spell Fox was on it and ran in, Gibson- easily kicking a goal from the try. This score took the Mataura boys by surprise, but as a result of smart following -up, was really well deserved. There was no further score during the first spell, though the visitors, who played a good passing game, were almost all the time in dangerous proximity to the Gore line. The second spell was uneventful till near the close, when J, Rider got over the line for Gore, but the kick was a difficult one and Campbell did not succeed in placing a goal. There was no further score. The play of the visitors was all through inferior to that of the local youngsters, and the capita] running of MacGregor was a feature of the game. Another feature was the exceedingly bad play of some • of the Gore forwards, and but for the safe play of" their backs— the full back, J. Gibson, especially deserving praise —^they would have stood a sorry show.
