LAND AND WATER
The Dunedin Waterloo Cup, to be contested at the forthcoming Plumpton meeting at Forbury Park, has been on view during the past week at the establishment of Mr P. Hyams, Princes street, from whom the trophy was purchased. It is of solid silver, is richly engraved, and bears the following inscription : — "Dunedin Waterloo Cup 1888. Presented by Messrs J. Speight and Co" The English football team played a match against Maitland on Tuesday under the Australian rules, the latter winning by nine goals to four. A boxing contpst for £20 a-side has been arranged between Pettengell and a stranger who has just arrived from Melbourne, to come off at the Princess Theatre on Saturday night. Mr Owen is the stakeholder.
