The evidence of identification was strong, especialiy *hat of the bank clerk wfco cashed the cheque gforcm for the cattle. On the I other hand, the woman's relations and servants of the family swore positively that on the day she was said to have been at Mataura selling cattle she was on her mother's farm driving a reaper. Sensation was caused in couefc towards the close of the trial by tho fainting of the accused, which stopped proceedings for half-aru-hour. The jury were unableto agree, and were locked up for the night.
