SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

A meeting of the Otago School Commissioners was held on Tuesday afternoon. There were present : Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), A. C. Begg, and W. H. Pearson.

The Secretary reported that he had made a personal inspection of sections 13 to IT, block IV, Hawksbury district, which the commissioners had been asked to subdivide, and he had! also interviewed several residents in that localityincluding three of those who signed the petition for subdivision). He had recommended the chairman to advertise the leasing of thesections in one lot, which accordingly had been* done. — The action of the chairman was confirmed.

The Secretary also reported that a number of Educational reserves in various parts of the provincial district had been on the 28th and 30th ultimo re-leased for a total annual rental of £496. 7s.

A letter was received from Messrs Fraser and Stilling, on behalf of the lessee of section 2, block 11, Maungatua, asking the commissioners to extend the term of the lease for eight years.] . It was decided to offer the section for lease by> auction in the usual manner for a term of' 14 years.

A report' was received from Ranger Hughan on unsold cash sections in the Wendonside and Green Tale district.— On the recommendation* of the ranger it was decided to offer the sections' in question for five years' pastorallease at an upset of 6d per acre.

An application was received from Mr C ' Gallagher that section 11, block VII, Wendon.beoffered for safe on deferred payment or lease — It was decided to offer the section for five years' lease at 66 an acre.

The Secretary of the Education Board forwarded descriptions of sections in the Dunedin and East Taieri, Hawksbury, and Oamaru districts required for school sites, and asked that the land should be set apart.— Agreed to. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £63 10s 6d.
