ROSLYN v. CALEDONIAN.

The Caledonians have not made so good a start' this season as they did last year. They sustained a decided defeat in the first game they have played— a fact which will, I have no doubt, do the members an immense amount of good by inducing them to keep up their practice. The weather on Saturday was warm and sultry, and had the effect of making the green play extremely keen, but this should not, after the first few ends, have made much difference in the play, as ' they are nearly all old bowlers and should be able to lay down their bowl and judge as to the relative keenness or heaviness of the green as well as anyone. I only trust that the result will be a useful lesson to the Caledonians, The game commenced at 3 o'clock, the Roslyn leading from the start. At the end of the first half hour Roslyu was leading by 12 points, the scores being — Roslyn, 20 ; Caledonians, 8. At 4 o'clock Roslyn led by 21 points — Roslyn, 43 ; Caledonian, 22. At the end of the third half hour the visitors had pulled up four points, and it looked as if they were getting familiar with the green, and were going to reduce the lead to a very small minority, the score being — Roslyn, 61; Caledonian, 44. At five o'clock, when time was called, the Caledonians had lest the game by 19 points, the score being — Roslyn, 79 ; Caledonian, 60.
