AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS. DEXTER Is a half-brother to the famous SPOT, being out of the same dam. but was got by a bettor sire than Spot's father.. Dexter also has thrown better stock, and has proved himse'f a'sure foalgetter. During the last season his ot successful stinting has been unusually high, sevei al well-known mares that had previously had no result from other tires having proved to be in, foal to Dexter. H,j is now 10 years old, 16 hand II inches high, and is sound, and last year, notwithstanding the' hard work he underwent, he was stronger and in better condition at the end of the season than he was at the beginning. He is a rich, dark brown colour with black points ; has splendid action ; is a good walker ; an easy and rapid trotter ; has grand bone, and a docile temper. He has never been beaten in the prize ring. Dexter's siro is the noted horse Talisman, bred In Canterbury by Mr J. W. Mallock', got by the famed Traducer, dam Azucena, by Towton— Meg Merrliees; by St. George— Gipsy ; St. George, by St. George— Whisker mare, well known in New South Wales as Single's mare, the dam and granddam of noted horses. • Dexter's dam is Gentle Annib, the far-famed Trotting mare (well known both in Otago and Canterbury) imported from Australia. For tpeed and as a weight carrier she was unexcelled in her day. In 1866, on the Papanui Road, Gentle Annie, with 13st up, won a four-mile trotting race in 12min •JOsec. beating Orlando by 174 yds.
