BOWLING
A meeting of the Committee of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held in the. Grand Hotel on Tuesday night. There were present : Mr Thos. Callender (president), Mr J. L. Butterworth (vice-president), Messrs T. Moodie, J. Edgar, T. Young, J. Curie, H. M'Neill, W. Carlton, J. Yates, and the secretary (Mr G. Capstick).
Mr Young submitted several designs for medals ; and it was resolved to order a sufficient quantity to do for one year, until such time as designs could be obtained of a purely colonial character more suitable for the colony. It was also resolved that the secretary should write to the several clubs suggesting the second week in February 1887 as the date to play off the tournament, for which entries had to be made on or before December 1 ; also that the secretary forward a copy of the rules to associations in Victoria and New South Wales.
A friend, writing to Mr Thos. Callender, referring to the New Plymouth Bowling Green, says : — " I can say without fear of contradiction that we have the most pleasantly-situated green in the colony. It stands within 300 yards of the sea, but about 150 ft above it ; commands a visw of the town and suburbs, while Mount Egmont, with its snow-capped peaks, forms the background.
