Chbistchurch, August 25. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand^ Shipping Company to-day, the chairman, Mr^ Murray- Aynsley, mentioned that a communication had been received from the Admiralty asking |f the company could . arrange for their officers to serve for a time on board. men-of»

War preparatory to their being placed on. the Naval Reserve. A recommendation had been aent to the London office to <»rry out the idea if practicable. He thought that aa many of the company's officers were New Zealand "born, the two years' experience they would thus have in the navy would be a great thing for -them, and he had no doubt they would do credit to the Colony and the service to which they belonged. A dividend of 5 per cent, was declared, and the report (a digest of which has been previously telegraphed) was adopted. The Hon. E. Richardson, and Messrs L., Harper and R. Wilkia were re-elected directors ; and Messrs D. Craig- md A. Garrick re-elected auditors.
