WYNDHAM.
'August 24. — Backdoors' Ball. — For some time past this .small community has been very much interested in the movements of certain members of " our bachelors," who, it was averred, were intending to give a ball which was entirely to eclipse anything of the kind ever seen here. On Friday, the 21st hist., then, this great event came oft" with unqualified success, and our genial hosts, " the bachelors,"' may lay the flattering unction to their souls that they have far eclipsed any previous ball held here. The new Gaiety Hall was the scene of action, which certainly presented a most; gay and festive appearance as the guests began to arrive. Our hosts had evidently spent much trouble in decorating the room with a profusion of greenery, banners, &c. Small, bowers being formed round the room, proved cool and charming retreats, and were to all appearance fully appreciated. About 50 couples being present, the room was taxed to its utmost, but still it was not uncomfortably crowded. The music was furnished by Messrs Durie and Lithgow's fine band Taken altogether the ball given by " our bachelors?' will long be remembered by all who had the good fortune to be present. I forward 3'ou herewith a description of the dresses worn by the ladies for next week's Ladies' Column.
