BROAD BAY.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT). July I. Bukglarv,— On Saturday night last the boot anct shoe shop of Mr G. Green was entered and goods to> the value of £10 or over was taken therefrom. The goods consisted principally of men's balmorals, ladies' elastic-sides, and laceups, and some slippers, together with three or four knives, and a few coppers out of the till. The thieves had a beautiful clear Jalm moonlight night tor their work. They were evidently in no hurry, for I understand that they tried on a few pairs ot boots, which proving rather ti<dit they Jpulli'd the tongues out ot them. What tl"eir object was in taking the knives it would be hard to say— let us hope not to commit suicide when their wrongdoings make them uneasy. Mr T. M-Lennon's residence is situated on the opposite side of the road, and the inmates were in the full eniovment of " nature's sweet restorer," balmy sleep, little thinking what depredations were going on across the road. The thieves appear to have been as unconcerned as if there was not a house within a mile ot them. . Scholastic— The attendance at our school has been very good during the past quarter. The stnet average for the quarter being 42. The highest attendance for some days was 49, the number on the roll being 50. This average gives us a claim lor a pupil teacher, or a sewing mistress. The school was closed for the winter holidays on Friday.
