WELLINGTON SPRING MEETING.

Wellington, November 30. The Wellington Racing Club's Spring meeting was held on the Hutt Racecourse to-day. The weather was dull and threatening. About 800 people were present. The course was in splendid condition, and a good day's sport was enjoyed. The following are the results "• — RAILWAY STAKES HAKDJC-iP, Of 60 60V3. One mile and a quarter. The start was a wretched one, Sir George having all the best of it, and Derritt led the field at the turn by fully six lengths. At the back of the course Administrator improved his position, while Dan was still e ; ght lengths away. When crossing the roaco* at the top of the course Gravestock calleditm his mount, and the colt answering challenged Sir George. A splendid race ensued down the straight, both jockeys whipping hard. Sir George, however, could not be shaken off, and the result was a dead heat. Dan was a bad third. The owners of Sir George and Administrator agreed to divide the Btakes, and Sir George cantered round the course. Time, 2 mm. 30£ sec. Orient led at the start, and the first three hurdles Were safely taken by all the horses. As the fourth Mountain Deer baulked, and lost aU chance. A splendid race ensued between Liability and Orient, but in taking the last hurdle the former ran off, and before he could be brought back Bob had taken second place. Orient won as he liked. From a good start; The Poet had the lead, which he maintained tor the turn home, when Treasurer and Administrator ca,me up, and a good iu.ee ensued between the three down the straight, Administrator winning rather easily by a length and a half, Treasurer beating The Poet for second place by a length. A splendid start was effected, and at once Miss Juan took a lead of a few yards, but almost immediately Odd Trick took 'up the running, and passing the stand the first time he had a clear lead of a length, with The Poet close up. Towards the back of the course The Poet came up, and Miss Juan challenged Odd Trick. Entering the straight Dan was lying fourth, but The Poet answered to the call given him, and won by a length, Odd Trick a good aecond, with Miss Juan close on his quarters. The other horses were nowhere. Tha totalisator dividend was £3 7s. The owner of Sir George laid a protest against The Poet on the ground that he crossed Dan and Sir George. After due consideration the stewards disallowed the protest, and gave the stakes to The Poet. Several of the jockeys allege that Odd Trick and Miss Juan went inside the posts. The Hack Race was won by swordsman, and the Consolation Handicap by Odd Trick (Bst 91b), Mountain Deer (6st 71b) Becond. Treasurer fell.
