TAIERI BEACH.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) July 12 School Entbrtainment.— A serio-comic -entertainment waa given in the schoolhouse htru on Wednesday evening; by our teacher, for the purpose tf raising funds for good-attendance tchool prizes. The t-chonl-room was cr .wded to the door, which shewed tnat something good was cxi ected, unu those who were present 1 scarcely think went away disappointed. Sir Carrington is quite a hobt in himself, and certainly deserves credit for the pains he muht have taken to prepare for tha entertainment, which coubisted of a number of son^s, comic and Baiiuus, bolides a t-hadow show in which a great many figures were brought into view. It was explained by Mr Camugton that his chief aim in drawing up hia programme was to afford healthy amusement to the childi en, but the entertainment proved of a class well fitted to amuse both old and young. A number of amusing poems were either read or sung by Mr Carrington himself, who played his own accompaniments in the latter case. Some of the poems—" Tne Lady Rohesia," and "The Vulgar Little Boy"— were illustrated by (suitable pictures. The shadow show finished up with an Indian war-dance, in which all the figures previously brought on tho boards appeared, only to be kicked away by the active leg* of the Indian, who kept time to a lively tune on the bagpipes. This gave infinite delight to the children, who seemed sorry only when the music ceased. The entertainment closed with a political caricature, in which Mr Carrington inimitably burlesqued the address of one of tho Bruce candidates who appe-ired before us lately. The entertainment was one of the moat Hucce-bful ever held here, and a nice lot of books will be f' rthcotrjing for tho-e who have put in the >equHte number of aiteni ancci.

Road Bard.- Mr James Fanbiirn, Mr James Smith, and Mr Waiter Gibb have been elected to represent Taiuri beach in the Wuihola Bi-ad B ar •. Oi la'e wi- have found it to our advantage 10 get 1. real men returned for our subdivision, un<J even then it takes us all our time to jfet a little attention paid too r roads. We pay a fair shar; of the tates, and in consequence we exptct to get a fair hhare of the money expended for our benefit. The road from Waihola to the Beach is in as good a state as wo could expect at this time of the year, and generally throughout the subdivision the roads are fair, with the exception of the piece of district road leading to % be river mouth, and this is in a disgraceful plight.

Tho roadway has never bi'ou forruod, and the ruts endanger the lives of hor-enwn riding over th>-m in the da.k. The brwlo track leading from tho jotty is now impassable p.utof it havintr "-lipped a>vav, anM s-hould a y n ignorant of the tact c»ne that wav by ■ i ht ho wdiiM be in oa ircr >f airing ove , Ivi-e aiKl all, ii t<> in- mut* hiiniiivd f -1-t bflo n. in the. fir t plice 'lie trick »,v m d too li.gh up, nd 111 ,h, rtcini itinv.r'i' 1 ! -1 i'id viiem in X It would , I b w*. i.ijj in v- \ t" 'O"i s' v t ihu porn.ni tluthi--l.|i "'■' ' iUIV > '"'1 '' i'fi'B a. ia' butr.or ir ck bo iiLi-ii 1 \"* i-'iVwn \ ftnii r.U'diui gn'it, usi! t ' a ood m .«\ t .« . p c fu t<> he lidhoil our - o«v mem er- »i.l t.ike t»ie m 1 c. in hvjd, and ur^c our ruaboiiable ruquesto upon ih B ).ird.
