The field was at the post pretty punctually, but owing to the delay caused by the breaking: away of Ilex and Nesscliff, and the irritability of Aranza, Kineton, and the Peine de Coeur colt, it was a good 25 minutes after the ap» pointed hour when Mr M'George dropped bia flag to an excellent start. After going a few strides Aranza and Greek Maid collided, with the result that the foimer was badly out about the hock, whilst Greek Maid fell and threw little Barrett heavily, breaking his collar bone. On settling down in their places, Sulphur was seen with a lead of Nesscliff, the Chaplet geld* ins, Peine de Coeur colt, and Kineton ; on the right the mont prominent were Knight of Burghley, Scwbell, Lowland Chief, and Octave. By the time three furlongs had been travelled, Nesscliff had assumed the lead, attended by Sulphur, Peine de Coeur colt, and the Chaplet gelding, but just before the five furlongs, Scobell and Knight of Burghley crossed over the course and joined the leaders. At tha inclosure, Nesscliff and Sulphur were beaten, and Scobell drew out with a slight lead over Knight of Burghley, but Mr Davis' colt waa on level terms at the stand, and, drawing away, won by three-quarters of a length ; four lengths divided second and third ; Nesscliff was placed fourth, and then came St. James fifth, Fetterless sixth, Kineton seventh, Octa\a eighth, Lowland Chief ninth, the Ohapltt gelding tenth, aud Ilex last. Time, 1 mm. 48£ sec. Value of the stakes, £1414.
