April 23rd. SCHOOL Matters.— Those interested in school matterß held a meeting on Saturday last, but as the Inspector (Mr Taylor) viaited the diat ict on Thursday, and promised to report to the Education Board in favour of a school for this district, it was decided to take no further action in the matter until the result of the Inspector 1!*1 !* report was made known. — At the meeting it was resolved— " That a petition bt sent to the Chairman of the Taicrl County Council asking him to have the road from the Hintlon road to the village settlement forced." The petition is in course of signature

Charitable. -Much sympathy was expressed at the meeting ror Mrs Joyce, widow of one of the men killed in the accident at the Deep Stream contract. Her case was represented by those who knew her ax being one of great distress. It was decided to open a subscription Hit here, and also to communicate with the Mayor of Dunedin, with the view of rais ng funds to meet the requirements of herself and family Dynamitb — Mr Gorman, agent for Nobel's dynamite, made a very successful experiment at the Deep Stream railway contract on Friday, dislodging a large mass of stone, weighing about '40 tons, by simplj placing 14 cartridges in a orevice at the bed of the rock. The whole mass of stone was huned clean into the river, a distance of about 200 feet. As a proof of the satisfaction which the experiment has given, it is sufficient to say that Mr Clark, the contractor, has on that account already given a large order for Nobel's dynamite.
