WYNDHAM.

(PROJI OUR OWN CORRBSPONDBKT.)

Signs op Progress —Nearly every week sees Homo important addition to our aspiring township. The latest is a chemist and druggist establishment. Mr Pocplewcll, who is a registered pharmaceutical chemist, has opened a shoo on the preini-es lately occupied by Mr Ellio\ The building has undergone oxteneivo alterations, and now affords Dr Stoukwell a convenient and private- consulting-room. As a tule, the health of our district is very good, but it ia soiuo comfort to know that in times of trouble our needs can be at once supplied. May the doctor and the druggist succeed as the last syllable of thoir names suggests. — I must not omit to mention, that not only is the machinery of, our bodies provided for locally, but also that of our watshes aud clocks. Mr Sollars has just taken a louso of oue of Mr Millie's new shops, and started as a practical watchmaker and jeweller.— The new public hall is to be oponcd thia week by a grand puppor and ball of the Odd-Fellows. School.— Our public school was examined lately by Inbpector Geinmell. The percentage of passes gained was 07. In his remarks tho Inspector says : " Thia is not a very high pass, but two circumstances must be remembered when considering it. It ia very far in advance of tho provious examination, and shows that good work hua been done under the present teacher. A number of children from the infant class woro prohontod for Standard 1, but many of them failed to paß? (.He oitleal, ami thus the teacher's laudable

•anxiecyto push on his scholars secured for him a lower number of passes than he could otheiwise have ■expected." The second standard passed remarkably well; tbe third is weak in grammar, history, and mental arithmetic. Organisation is mentioned as good, singing is flat, and registers correct. We have no doubt that by next examination the fchool will do even better than it has done now. In the meantime ib is pleasant to know that our much-a'oused school 13 beginning to rank respectably.
