' Our Outram correspondent writes :— A fad fatal accident befel a waggoner named Wm. Brenssell on the 22nd inst. He was going to Gkdbrook Station with a heavy load of grass seed, and when going down the hill at Deep Stream the brake of his waggon is supposed to have given way and the waggon capsized, with the result that he was crushed to death. There was no one present at the time, but a roadman named Storrie must have been at the scene of the accident shortly after it occurred, and was the first to bring assistance. The deceased was a promising young man about 22 years of age, of highly industrious habits and obliging disposition. His .parents reside in the Taieri ; his fatheiywho is widely known by the souhiquet of German Charlie,' having for many years kept a publichouse at Whare Creek, near Lee Stream, An inquest was held at M'Kay's Hotel, ■ Outram, on Friday, before Dr M'Caw, district | coroner, and a jury of 13, when the Jury reI turned a verdict of " Accidental death, i On Monday morning an accident happened to a young man named' Arthur Kaff els, an employe in Messrs Reid and Gray's establishment. While working at one of the machines his left hand got jainbed between the cogwheels, and it was so badly injured that- on his removal to the Hospital it was found necessary to amputate the third and fourth fingers. An extraordinary case of stabbing occurred at midday on Saturday in the Chinese quartore, Walker street. A Chinaman named Ye Lung was standing outside a doorway at about half -past 12 o'clock, when one Hoo Mookmade his appearance, and walking up to him with a pocket - knife in his hand, deliberately stabbed him in the face and breast without giving the slightest warning of his intention, or receiving, so far as' is known, any provocation. Ye Lung was immediately removed to the Hospital, being almost insensible from loss of blood, and his assailant, was promptly arrested by Constable Franklin. Hoo Mook was charged with the' offence' at the City Police Court on Monday, when the evidence of Dr Alexander was taken, who had examined tha accused on Monday last. tHe had then " attempted to stab the cook ofjthe place ho lived in, and had recently been sent down from the country, where ho had setjfire to tents, &c. The witness had no doubt that he was' insane, and' subject to very dangerous hallucinations.— Accused _ was remanded for further medical examination. Serloua Stabbing Cose. Wanganui, March 23rd: A serious case of stabbing occurred at Aramoho early this morning. Reuben Bason } was walking with his wife, and abusing her, when, either by accident or design, a knife he pas flourishing in his' hand struck her in the abdomen, inflicting a wound 2£in long, from wjiioh the intestines protruded. Medical aid was^ obtained, and it was found that the intestines were not cut. They were replaced, and sbme Bason has been apprehended. ■ He is a wellknown character, and has served several terms in gaol for ill-treating his wife. "1 ' „ ! ' ■ „, Later. .
