PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting: of the Portobello Road Board was held on the 25th at the Road office. Present : Messrs J. Korr (chairman), W. Bickson, J. Lewis, S, Morris, R. Raynbird^ J. i Gwyn, . A: • M'Kay. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. j Tenders.— The Chairman reported that tenders for the work in Hooper's Inlet, in front of Mr A. ClarkV, had been called for. Only one tender 'was before the Board, that of Mr .Tames Lewis, who offered to do the work at £82 10s.— Accepted. Reports. - The Chairman reported that the Commissioners appointed at last meeting to settle the matter in re >Veipers and Young's boundary between ( their property, had met and tried to get it settled, Mr Yourig; who was present at the Board's meeting, stated that he withdrew all concessions he mode on the day the Commissioners met. It was resolved that the clerk instruct the Messrs Weipers to that effect.— The Chairman reported that the Committee appointed at last meeting had visited the County road q,t Mr Gill's, and they were of opinion the work would be very expensive. A. diBCUSBion as to the ways and means took place, and it waß resolved that'Mr Lewis bo empowered to repair the road that is formed, and that the other portion at Mr Gill's stand over. ' ■ Correspondence.— A letter fi om Captain Hume, in spector of prisons, was nad, stating that the prisoners would be allowed to remain inPortobello until the road was finished.— A letter was read from Sergeant Ferguson thanking the Board for their congratulatory letter to him on his promotion.— The resignation of Mr Younjf. as auditor was read. Consideration of the matter allowed to stand over.— A petition, was read from five ratepayers in Papanui asking the Board to form a portion of road on the south-eastern side of Papanui Inlet. It was resolvod that the members of the subdivision lay off the work at the worst place, to the extent of £12, and call for tenders for next meeting. The Chairman broueht up the state of the Beach road towards the Papanui Flats, and it was resolved that the committee of the subdivisions examine, and if required effect the repairs by d*y labour or call for tenders.— A letter was read from Mr Rutherford, calling the attention of the Board to the state of the County road. To stand over until the funds be received for the County road.— A letter was read from Mr' Carmichael, asking the Board if they intend to carry out their intention of keeping the ridge road or otherwise, and to inform him of the same. Resolved that the Clerk write to Mr Carmichael and state thov intend to cam out their intention as soon as they are in funds.— A letter was read from Mr Richmond, askin"- the Board to metal the road lending to his stables. Postponed.— The question of cattle trespass on roads was brought up, and it was stated that the polii c would deal with the matter.— A letter was receivi d from Mr Larnach's agent slating that the new road was finished, and requesting the Board to take the same oil his hands.— lt was resolved that Mown Lewis, Owyu, and M'Kay visit and report at next meeting. The collector reported that he had collected £33 2a 6d rates during the month. The Chairman reported in re the County subsidy that he had telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary in the matter, mid had got an answer to the effect Hint the Council had not earned out the provisions of the Counticß Act A circular was read fro n the Public Works Department requesting a financial return for the year ending 81st varch. !
