Hibernian Society's Concert.

The Hibernian Society's anniversary concert was given in the Temperance Hall onFriday evening, when a crowded audience assembled. The programme arranged by Mr Valentine Twinning was a lengthy but very attractive one, comprising many well-known and appreciated items which, given fair execution, are at all times well received. Among the selections which met with most universal appreciation may be mentioned "Kathleen Mavourneen,"by Miss Hill; "The Silver Cup," by Mr Corrigan; and " The Harp that once," by Miss Jessie Coventry, all of which received great applause. In the second part, also, Miss Coventry gave the pretty ballad " One Wish," in excellent style, whilst Mr A. H. Norman received an encore for his violin solo, " La Sonnambula," to which he bowed his acknowledgments. Miss Hill sang twice, and produced a very favourable impression upon the audience ; and Miss Maud Smith also performed with good effect a well-arranged pianoforte solo. It is unnecessary to enumerate the individual items of the programme, which were one and all received most favourably, and many performers would have been compelled , to respond to encores had time permitted it. As it was, Mr T. Bracken was forced to come forward again after his recitation, " Shamus O'Brien," which he supplemented with "The Charge of the Light Brigade," both pieces being delivered in excellent style.
