SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
A well-attended meeting was held in the hall of the First Church on Tuesday evening, to consider the desirability of establishing a Sunday-school Union in Dunedin. At a meeting of Sabbath-Bchool workers, held in the hall on February 14th, the following resolution was passed :— " That Messrs W, B. Harlow, C. Moore, A. S. Paterson, W. Inglis, and the Rev. J. White be a provisional committee to draft proposals for a Sunday-school Union ; Mr White convener." The meeting last evening was convened for the purpose of considering the proposals of the Committee, printed copies of which had been circulated in the Sabbathschools of the district. Mr C. Moore was chairman of the meeting, Mr Chadwick secretary, and the Rev. J. White submitted the proposals of the Committee. After a lengthy and an oarnost consideration of the whole question, the proposals were adopted, subject to certain alterations and additions. The following gentlemen were elected officers of the Union : — President, Rev. Lindsay Maclde; vice-presidents, Rev. J. White and Mr W. B. Harlow ; secretary pro tcm., Mr Chadwick ; treasurer, Mr Hooper. The Committee consists of the following gentlemen : — Messrs Peters, Moore, Bardsley, bmith, Small, Lowden, J. Simon, Jones, and Shacklock.
The objects of the Union are the improvement of the members by the delivery of model lessons, the composition and delivery of essays, and the discussion of subjects connected with Sabbath-school work, the taking of such steps as may be deemed advisable for the promotion of Christian education amongst the young, and the establishment of Sabbath-schools in neglected districts. All Sunday-school teachers, ministers, and workers connected with evangelical churches are eligible for membership. The minimum subscription is Is per annum.
