Tho weather here is delightfully fine, and harvest operations are, being prosecuted vigorously. , Crops of all descriptions, howe'vor, will scarcely reach the average yield, of t former years. We arelpokihg 'forward, with some, degree of interest to learn tho yield of this year's wheat, and also the Equality, several farmers having planted pretty largely in -this grain.. H the' product and quality prove satisfactory, tho prosperity, and general ad'vancemeiit of this district \yill be a matter of a very fewjjyea'rs ;'and a low thousand pounds' expended upon building a' retaining-wall, wheroby'the channel would be confined and a direct outlet formed whereby the back water would scour the entrance, andenable craft to enter and.depart at all stages of the tide— this'and a railway terminus, with a line of rails conncctedj and real steam-engines and railway-cars upon it, ate looked forward td as a necessary following of a successful' wheat harvest this year. , -We lost by death this week, one -of 1 our well-known settlers, Kenneth M'Kenzio, of Koppoch Farm. He was; stacking on Monday last, and was about on Tuesday and Wednesday, moroing, but complainiDg of cramp pains in chest and bowels. He expired about 10 ft.m. on' Wednesday, being sensible up to a few minutes before death, which he viewed undismayed* His ibody was interred- in the cemetery, Fortroso, on Friday the 18th.- His age was- (33. Upwards of 100 persons followed; idcluding'4ohowemen, in orderly and] respectful-procession; Mr J.
