Harvesting is now in full swing in the surrounding district, and the weather is all that could be desired for the farmers, who are not losing an v time. I have just had a run amount the farmers, and in every place I called the crops are good, and tho farmers are all in good spirits. At present, I understand, oats are bringing a very fair price, so that the settlers may do well this season. A return cricket match between Kelso and Tapanui took place here on Saturday, and resulted in a victory for the visitors. However, the visitors only won by 11, and when tho standing of each Club is taken into ! account it cannot be considered much of a victory, ' seeing that the Kelso Club is only newly formed, ami ' some of the members knew nothing about the game £ till within a few weeks ago ; while, on the other hpd,

the Tapanul players are old hands, and have on former occasions taken the shine out of someciack clubs that they have played against. During the game Mr Dunnett, of the Railway Hotel, kept the steam up by supplying a drop of tho rea| I Glenhvat. About midday the members of eich Club ro'ired to tho Railway Hotel, and did justice to a flrst-oioss spread prepared under the guidance of Mrs Dunnett. After the game was finished they again visited the Railway Hotel, where prosperity to each Club was drunk, and " three-timea-three " given for the visitors. I have just heard that our new School Commltteo had a meeting on Saturday evening, and that they have chosen a Mr George Macmoran, a " new chum, as teacher. From what I can learn of thie i gentleman, he Is thoroughly qualified to perform the duties of teacher, and I hope, for the good of the place, that our Committee have made a wise selection, as I understand they had a good many candidates.
