SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting of the School Commissioners was held on Tuesday. There were present— J. P. Martland, Esq. (chairman), A. C. Begg, Esq., W H. Pearson, Esq , the Hon. Dr Menzies, and the Hon. W H. Reynolds. The following business was transacted : EDUCATION RESERVES ACT. The Hon. Dr Menzies laid upon the table a copy of a draft bill amending the Education Reserves Act, which was intended for presentation at next sitting of the Assembly.— The draft was approved of.

The Aparima Road Board applied to be allowed to take a road through section 32, block XV, Jacob's River Hundred.— Approved, subject to lessee's consent.

HIGH SCHOOLS. The Board of Governors of the Dunedin Hi?h Schools requested the assistance of the Commissioners in making a road leading from the Main South road near Clinton, to Wyndham, running through Education Reserve No. 88— It was resolved that, subject to the Commissioners having the legal power to expend money as desired, the request be granted.

A SUGGESTION. Messrs Connell and Moodie wrote making a number of suggestions with regard to the disposal of the Board s reserves, for which it was agreed to thank them, and to state that the subject was under consideration.

FORMAL BUSINESS. A quantity of formal business, comprising the transference of leases, &c, was transacted

THE SECONDARY RESERVES. The Chairman was authorised to apportion, at the end of the present quarter, the secondary reserves rents between the Dunedin and Invercargill High Schools upon the basis of population.
