SCHOLARSHIP EXAMINATIONS.
The annual examination for scholarships offered by the Education Board to the scholars attending- the puDlic schools of Otago was commenced on Tuesday, and will be continued during the week. For the seniors there are nine scholarships, ranging from £20 to £40 each, and tenable for three years ; and for the juniors nine scholarships, from £20 to £40 each tenable for two years. The tenth candidate in each
class will receive a present of books, the gift of Sir J. Vogel. Examinations are being conducted at Oamaru, Palmerston, Lawrence, Tokomairiio, atid at the Normal School, Dunedin. The different schools are represented as follow :—: —
Senior Scholarships.— William street School, 2 ; Taieri Ferry, 1; Blueskin, 2; Waikouaiti, 1; Boys' Hiirh School, 3; Port Chalmers, 1 ; Union street, 3 ; Girls' High School, 1 ; Lawrence, 3 ; Waitahuna, 3 ; Tokomairiro, 4 ; Palmerston, 2 ; Oamaru High School, 2 ; Arthur street, 1 ; Seaeliff, I;—total,1 ;— total, 30. Junior Scholarships.— Lawrence, 1 ; Swift Creek, 1 ; Fairfax, 4 ; Blue Spur, 2 ; Balclutha, 4 ; Tokoma - riro, 1 ; Clyde, 6 ; Portobello, 1 ; Oamaru North, 5 ; Hyde, 1 ; Palmerston, 4 ; Wairuna, 1 ; Pine Hill, 1 ; Waitahuna, 4 ; North-East Harbour, 1 ; Kaitangata, 1 ; Oamaru High School, 4 ; Boys' High School, 2 ; Normal, 5 ; William street, 3 ; Purakamii, 1 ; Anderson's Bay, 1 ; Albany street, 1 ; Arthur street, 1 ; Caversham, 4 ; Normal School, 2 ; Dunedin Collegiate, 1 Blueskin, 1 ; — total, 64. The examinations for the scholarships offered by the Orkney-Caithness Society are also being conducted. For the Orkne}^ - Caithness Society's scholarship (juniors) Hyde sends 1 competitor ; Lake Waipori 1 ; Port Chalmers, 1 ; High School, 1 ; Normal School, 3; Melrose, 1. For the Caithness - Sutherland scholarship (seniors) Waikouaiti sends 1 competitor : High School, 2 ; Normal, 2.
