(fROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) August 23rd. On the 18th and 19th of the month this plaoe waa visted by one of the Beveresb storms of wind that we have experienced for a long time. An extensive flumlng, the property of Messrs Teague and Co., got blown down sometime during the night of the 18th. This fluming reaohed from the one side to the other of Welshman's Gully, for the purpose of carrying water aoross the old workings. So far as I have heard, that is the only damage of importance caused by the wind. Following the wind came two days' rain, commencing early on Friday morning and raining almost continuously until Saturday evening, so that on Saturday the oreeks here for a short time were nearly as high as during the big flood of 1879. Up to date I have not heard of any serious damage to mining property. In mining, I may mention that a few more claims are oommenoing work in the vicinity of Vinegar Hill, viz.^ Messrs Hanrahan and Go., Dongae and party, Hostler and party, and Dongee, jun., and party. Agrioulture has received a severe blow from the report of the Royal Commission oa the Strath- Taieri railway.
