These applications raised the question as to whether schools should be granted free of charge for religious instruction on Sundays, and & loDg discussion ensued. The general opinion was that some fixed resolution should be come to on the subject, and eventually, On the motion of Mr Livingston, it was agreed—" That the school buildings be let to applicants for the purposes of religious and moral education on Sundays, at a charge of 4s weekly for one class-room and 2s 6 & for each additional room. That all applications for the use of the buildings on week evenings be dealt with as they arise. That this resolution apply to the five district schools."
