Waste Lands Board.

<, The ordinary meeting of the Lands Boar.l was held in the Board-room, Government Buildings, on Wednesday. Present : The Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), and Messrs J. W. Thomson, H. Bastings, and J. B. Bradshaw. The following business was transacted :—: — IIINDON. An application by Mr Andrew Scott, on behalf or the New Caledonia Quartz Mining Company, for a license over 10 acres afc Hindon for the purpose of raising lignite, was referred to the Warden of the district. TUAPEKA MOUTH. Mr Andrew M'Beath applied to purchase a business site at Tuapeka Mouth. — It waß resolved to offer the land applied for (section 28) for sale by auction as land of special value— being of superior agricultural quality — at the upset price of £10 per acre, and that the Warden be requested to value the improvements. WAIHOLA. Mr Hughan reported that no licenseholders attended the meeting at Waihola to elect wardens, and requested that he should be appointed to nominate rangers. — The Board decided to request Mr Hughan to suggest the nameß of two persons to act as rangers. WENDON. The Board approved of an application by Mr A. Matheson to purchase sections 13 and 14, block I, Wendon, held by him under exchange lease. TUAPEKA. WEST. The Board approved of Mr Charles Mullen's application to purchase sectiona 34, 35, 36, and 37, block Xr, Tuapeka West. WAIKOUAITI. The consideration of a letter from the Secretary for Crown Lands as to the dealing with lands on Runs 76 and 77, Waikouaiti district, with. Chief Surveyor's descriptions of said lands, and recommending that sections be opened on pastoral deferred payments, was adjourned for a week. NASEBY. The application of Mr Joseph Creighton to purchase section 2, block I, Naseby district, was considered, and it was resolved to allow the applicant to purchase the land in question. BTOLE PISTJRICT. A certificate of application for an agricultural lease of section 15, block I, Budle district, was submitted by James Eraser, and approved. TEVIOT. An application by James Woodhouse to purchase, under agricultural lease, section 18, block I, Teviot, was approved. DEFERRED PAYMENT LANDS. The Board considered the applications for deferred-payment lands, and ordered licenses to be issued to the applicants as follows :—: — W. A. Gorgan, section 5, block VIII, Benger district. Moore Graham, section 3, block VIII, Benger district. Peter Shiels, section 4, block VIII, Benger district. Geo. Courtier, section 2, block VII, Benger district. Thomas Rae, section 8, block VIII, Benger district. Allen Collie, section 6, block VIII, Benger district. FOREST TREES ENCOURAGEMENT ACT. Ranger Valpy, in reporting on the application of the Hod. M. Holmes for scrip under the Fortst Trees Encouragement Act, forwarded a certificate for the sum of £98 63 8d in the applicant's favour. — The Board directed that the scrip should ba issued by the Ranger, WAKATIP. An application was made by Messrs Robertson and Co. to occupy 100 acres of bush at Wakatip, adjoining the area recently abandoned by them. —The Board decided to issue a license to the applicants for three years, at the rate of Is per acre per annum, for 80 acres, applicants to furnish sketch. VALUATION OP IMPROVEMENTS ON BUNS. The Chief Commissioner requested the Board to consider the advisability of appointing valuators to estimate the value of improvements effected by runholders on the runs dealt with at the last meeting, and to be dealt with. — The Board appointed Messrs B. P. Bayley, James Murison, H. M. Campbell, and P. Power to appoint appraisers to va'ue improvements on runs, under section 116 of th • Land Act, 1877.
