CAVE VALLEY, OAMARU.

(if ROM A COBBESPONDENT.) The crops in this district have put on quite a yellow appearance, and in two or three days the reaper will have found its way into most of them. In some parts the yield of oats will be as high as sixty bushels to the acre, which is very good, considering that they were sown on the firct furrow. There are somo crops, oats especially, owing to their having been late sown and a dry season combined, will not be ready for the reaper for some time to come, but taking them as a whole they are as good, if not better, than in former years. Tho sections in the recently-sold township of Whitstone aro being already rapidly dotted with houses. Among the now buildings noticeable in the district is a pretty house built for Mr W. Clark, who lattly bought a farm on the Whitstone Estate, and a large stablo and granary combined, built on the George Estate, both places adding greatly to tho appearance of the diatricb. Tho grass has suffered pretty severely in consequence of the late dry weather, and I am suro tho downpour we had on Tuesday must be very welcome to tho sheep farmers. The rain will do very little good to the crops vow, as they are tco far advanced. A conceit was held in the Cave Valley School-house on Tuesday evening. There was a very good house considering the distance the peope had. to come, and I must say the singing was of a very high class.
