THE LAND TAX.
Wellington, January Bth. The land revenue for the month of December, so far as the returns have been received from the several districts of the Colony, shows a decided falling-off. The returns are as follows :— General, L 5; Ellesmere and Forsyth reclamation, L 674 4j ; Westport and Ngakawau Coal Field Railway, L 2 13* 4d ; Ashburton, L 1493 11s 3d ; Ashley, L 1493 8s sd ; Akaroa, L 48 6; Bay of Islands, L 274 s<?; Bruce, L4Bl 16a lid; Boiler, L 37 7s 3d; Clutha, LG3S Is 4d ; Corornandel, L 27 8; Collingwood, L3l 19s Gd ; Grey, L 56 2s Gd; Geraldine, L 59 7; Inangahua, Lll3 8s Gd ; Lakes, L 943 15s 8d ; Manukau, L 978 ss; Manawatu, L 75 15j ; Maniototo, L2BO 2s; Marlborough, L 5 11s Sri ; Patea, LI ; Sounds, LI 0s lOd ; Southland, L9156 11s 3d ; Stewart's Island, L2l 17s Gd ; Selwyn, L6B 9=> lid ; Taieri, L 144 10* ; Taranald, L 1790 5s 6d ; Thames, 7s Gd ; Tuapeka, LI4OO 4s sd ; Vincent, L 65 7s ; Wairarapa East,, 103 ; Wairarapa West, L 44; Waipawa, LG6 9* 8d ; Waimea, L 69 Is 4d ; Waimate, L 742 7s ; Waikouaiti, L3G2 17s lid ; Wallace, L 742 123 ; Whakatane, Lls ; Westland, L17 12s Gd. Total, L 23.661 9s Bd. The following land has been sold on deferred payments : — Lakes, L 6; Southland, L 3; Selwyn, L4B ; Wallace, L2B 10s. Total, LBS 10s. This gives a gross total of L 24,746 19s 8d for December.
