THE WEEK'S BUSINESS.

Witness Office, Thursday Morning Bmi ness during tho past week has beeu fairly good, although we have no particular transactions to report, and prices remain unalteied from our last quotations The only arrival we have to notice is that of the Elect™ from London, after a protracted voyage of 130 days. In kerosene is no change— Diamond celling at Is 4Jd ; D< vot'a, Is SJ. A parcel \<l Olcophane brand has been offering during the week, but without as yet finding a buyer. Candles continue low in prico, and during the last few days several pare Ir have been sod to arrive at rates withheld Teas of the lower qua'ities are in considerable demand, but stocks of these have run very low. In ales there is nob much doin,r, but stout is in good enquiry, and stocks are not large. We quote sales of 'Juinness'd (Burkes) at 12k qts and 83 pints ; do (Johnson's), l's to 11s 6d, and 7<i 9 I. In wines thero is a slight enquiry for port, but sherry Is quite neglected. Brandies are in fair demand During the week a considerable quantity of Hennessy's Cine has been placed at 32s 6d ; bulk is held for 10s per gallon, Secondary brands sell at the usual rates ; of the lower qualities the markeo is at present almost bare Of fish, salmon is alone inquired for. and stocks are small. Trade lots command Kh to 10s 6d, according to quantity. Fruits remain unaltered, and prices very unsatisfactory to importers. Fencing wire is in (rood demand, sales being principally of tho coarser numbers. We quote No. 6, £14 10s to £15 ; No. 7, £16 to £15 10s; No. 8, £16 to £16 10». Standard iron is selling freely at £11 per ton ; pig iron »t £5 10s per ton. Cement is at present in heavy stock, and does not command over 16s per barrel. Wheat has somewhit given way during the week, and sales are reported at from 4s Id for good ordinary, to 4s 3d for prime. O*ts continue in good demand, and prices remain firm at 3s 4d and 3? 6d, for good feed ; prime milling, 3s 6d. Barley continues tcarco and w*ntad ; good malting is worth 6s to &a 6d ; prime, Cs ; feed and milling, 3s 3d to in, according to sample. Flour sells freely at £11 103 and £12 ; oatmeal, £17 10s and £18 Pearl birley, £20. Pollard commands £6, and bran £4 ss, bags included. During the wefclr, Messrs Jl'Landress, Hepburn, and Co. held an auction sale of groceries and American notions, but the attendance was ism ill, and the prices realised can hardly be taken as a criterion of market values.
