DALMAILLY. — A .REMINISCENCE.

By Johh 6. Smith,. Lonqbush.

O sweet the burnie rows '

By the bonnie heath'ryknowes, . That are round about the ruins o* Dalmailly; An' saft the birdies' sang, The purple bloom amang, When the sun glents blithe on Dalmailly. |Mang the green grass waving high, The breezes heave a sigh, As they linger o'er the ruins o' Dalmailly. ' For the bauld who are awa, An' wha trode the lordly ha', In the stateliness o' pride in Dalmailly. 0 ! I mind in days o' youth, ' The days o' love an* truth, When we wandered to the ruins o' Dalmailly * How we moved with silent tread, O'er the relics o' the dead That are sleepin' sac sound in Dalmailly. Or we sat upon a stone, ' ' 'Mid the ruins gray an! lone. An' mused on the past o' Dalmailly ; And in visions o' the brain, . The auld forms lived again, » O' the leddies an' the lords o' Dalmailly. We heard the music's strain, An' mirth resound again. 'Mid the revel an' the dance In Dalmailly ; An* we saw the bright eyes shine, 'Mid the wassail and the wine, That aye ran in galore in Dalmailly. When the gloamin' shadows fell On the purple heather bell, And a' was drear an' dowie at Dalmailly ; How we ran wi' fairy feet, Le3t we should chance to meet The ghatets that glide at night at Dalmailly. 0 ( dule upon the day When the glory fled away Frae the towers and the bowers o' Dalmailly When the cruel vengefu' foe, Laid the pride an* beauty low, 0' the bonnie wa's an' ha's o' Dalmailly.
