ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

At a meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, . which, was held on the 9th inst., there,* were present : Messrs J. X' Maitland, G. L.' Sise, W. Arthur, F. C. Pulton, W. D. Murison 1 (Chairman), and P. He' also reported' that a new breeding pond j: had been constructed at the Botanical Gardens, 1 andthata" considerable number of trout had already been obtained from the Water oL Leith.for, breeding purposes. He estimated that. 33,000 eggs will, be procured, from those now in the pond. One of the maje fish taken in the Water of Leith weighs 10£lUs. Graff, Palmerstori North, Wellington, iv which the- writer offers to proceed to Norway and procure a quantity' of black game for such of the New Zealand Societies as would subscribe for 'this object. It was decided that, as Mr A. C. Begg intends obtaining, if possible, a number of those birds for the Ofcago Society when in Scotland, Mr Graff's offer need not in the meantime be token advantage of. Mr W. Arthur consented to act as hon. secretary of tbe Society until the return of Mr A. C. Bepg from Great Britain. The meeting then adjourned.
