August 15th, 1877. The labour market still moves very quietly, but there are far fewer men co-r plaining of wsnt of work. The building trade cannot be called bad for the winter, a* a great many substantial buildings are being erected, aid many more contemplated. The iron trade is still rather diecoura'iusr. As usual, we are invaded with a host of city-bred gentle-nurtured young mo'i from Home, quite unfitted for roughmsf it in a uew country. Those w.lO send them aye guilty of great cruelly tuvatds them. Messrs SJ. and J. Mxbnan, George street, report the following as the latest quotations :— Flour— Large bags, L 18;1 8; small do, LlB 10s per ton. Oatmeal— Llß per ton. Pearl Barley— L22 per ton. Bran — L4 10s, including baga. Pollard— L7 5s per ton. Chaff— £s per ton. Hay — L 55s per ton. Potatoes, £2 10s to £3. Wheat — 7s 6d for milling ; fowls* feed, 4s to 4s od. Barley— 33 to 3s 6d per bushel. Oats— 3s 4d to 3s 6d per bushel to 3s 9d milling. Butter— Fresh, Is 2d per Ib. Cheese— s£d to 6Jd per lb. Eggs — Is Cd per doz. Straw— £2 per ton.
