THE ARROW MINERS' ASSOCIATION.
We have been favoured with a copy of the annual report the Arrow Miners' Association for the year 1876-7. The report very ably treats of various matters affecting the Goldfields, especially taxation and the settlement ot the agricultural lands on Goldfielda. We extract from it the following : — "The great question of the settlement of agricultural lands on Goldfields is still giving rise to occasional ruptures between the miner and the farmer. Your Committee, as in former years, have never failed to press upon the Government, on every occasion offering, the advantages of a leasing system without purchase, reserving free entry to the miner for mining purposes, and your Committee has now the gratification to inform you that their proposals are at last receiving the consideration of the Government. While speaking of this subject, your Committee feels in duty bound to acknowledge with thanks the valuable assistance rendered in the matter by Mr. Warden Stratford. Amongst other suggestions furnished to the Conference of Wardens lately held at Wellington your Committee submitted to their consideration the proposal relating to the agricultural settlement of the Goldnelds ; also the reduction in the price of mining leases, and the simplification of the cancellation of these lenses when necessary ; all of which suggestions have, after due consideration, been recommended to the Government by the Conference." — Mount Ida Chronicle.
