The following vessels arrived at Britain from New Zealand ports : — From Port Chalmers : Calypso, May 19th ; Dunedin, May 14th ; Otaki, May 18th ; Wairoa, May 19th. From Bluff : J. N. Fleming, May 13. From Lyttelton : White Eagle, May 17 ; Kangitikei, June 3rd ; Crusader, May i9th. From Wellington : Avalanche, June 4th; Himalaya. April 23. "Rom Auckland : Kapido, May 11 ; Oxford, May 31 ; Jessie Osborne, May 14 ; Charlotte, May 21. The following vessels were on the berth at London for New Zealand ports other than Otago :— At London : For Auckland— Farnworth. For CanterburyCrusader, Langstone, Waitangi. For Wellington— St. Leonards, Schiehallion, Wairoa, Avalanche. For Nelson — Lochnagar. The ship loYercargill, from London for this port, passed the Start on May 21st. She waa subsequently spoken on tho 24th, lat. 46 E , long. 11 west. The number of wrecks reported for the present year, to date May 19, amounted to 830. With regard to freights, the Mail says :— "There is no favourable change to repoit in homeward and outward freights. From London to the ttst, the Australasian and New Zealand Colonies, there is but little enquiry for tonnage. For the Cape the demand is more active. Coal freights to India, China, and Java are somewhat weaker. In homeward transactions from Bombay and Calcutta there is very little doing. From the rice ports next season 62s 6d is the utmost obtainable.

The tonnage loading on the berth at London, June 7th, for India. China, and the Cape of Good Hope, amounted to 47,412 tons, and for Australia and New Zealand 78,183 tons. The Waimate, for Canterbury, saiied from Gravesend June 6th, and passed Ded next day. For Wellington, the Orari sailed from Gravesend June 7th, the Ze*Kndia June sth. For Auckland, the Sam Mendel saiieil May 30th, and on June 4th was 44 miles S.W. of the Lizard.

Private advices received by Captain Logan by the Suez mail give some particular about the passage of the ship J. N. Fleming from the Bluff. The Fleming made ihe run Home to the Docks in 80 days, and made a very close race of it with the ship Dunedia, hence «n the same day that the Fleming sailed from the Bluff— February 24th. Both vessels rounded the Horn on the same day, but the Fleming arrived at London one oay in advance of her. The Fleming was almost in company with 'the ship Jessie Readman, from Wellington, as they both passed Trinidad the same day. The Readman, however, did not arrive at London until four days after the other. Mrs Hart and family, who went Home in 1 the Fleming, enjeyed good health daring the passage. From London, the ship went round to Glasgow, to go on the berth for this port. She encountered much heavy weather, and was the only vesael out of many bound down Channel which did not bear up for the Downs from Portland. Captain Moff &tt kept her at it, and was rewarded by an early slant of wind that took him round the Land's End. She arrived on the sixth day.

The ship Border Chief from the Bluff, and the ship White Eagle from this port, made the passage to London respectively in 110 and 105 days. 1 1 Is said that Captain Joss, of the Wairoa, was about to resign the command of that ship, and that Captain Qorn, of tho Mat»ura, was likely to succeed him. The New Zealand Shipping Company have telegraphic advices announcing the arrival in London of the Hurunui, from Port Chalmers, and Waitara, from the Bluff, prior to the 27th inst. Referring to the Company's ship Opaw.3, whose arrival in London on the 25th July was 'duly announced, it is worth mentioning that her voyage to and from London was the fastest ever made by a sailing ship. She left London on the 16th January, delivered a full cargo in Lyttelton ; loaded, and sailed on the 13th May, and arrived on the 25th July— thus completing the round voyage in six months and nine days. The May Queen sailed from Lyttelton on the 6th and the Auckland on the 15th May ; the former is ' reported as arrived, but the latter not yet. Of the above ships, the Opawa was the only one not docked in the Colony, and this makes her performance all the more creditable.
